Environmental Consulting

WildFoxHill

I am an environmental educator, researcher and reflexive practitioner in the field of social-ecological systems.
My interest is to continually deepen my philosophical, conceptual and transdisciplinary understanding of the human-ecological dynamic and how to achieve just, equitable and sustainable development outcomes and then share this with others to empower positive action.

My doctoral thesis was in Water Resource Science, with a strong focus on environmental education.
The thesis explored:

1. The deeper underlying mechanisms at play driving modern society on this trajectory of ecological degradation
2. Transformative possibilities

There have been a number of key experiences that have deepened my commitment to earth care and social justice – and the journey of writing this thesis was a profound one.

My work includes:

  • The design and implementation of environmental education programmes for both schools and the wider community.
  • Development of educational resources, including videos.
  • Reforestation.
  • Community engagement.
  • Livelihood development.
  • Rural development.
  • Research (particularly on social-ecological systems).
  • Editorial work.

Thesis & CV

This thesis is based on a case study of the degraded Boksburg Lake social-ecological
system and an environmental education initiative that aimed to support its
transformation.
